For Those I Love

Description

Yay, here it is. The final piece that will go on my left shoulder on my back. Done with Prismacolor Fine Line Markers, and Prismacolor Colored Pencils.

So here's the breakdown of the significance.

The phoenix represents rebirth, new life, and second chances.

A lily represents not only innocence and purity, but closeness of loved ones. It was said to be Aphrodite's (also known as Venus) flower.

The banner is latin, and the translation is "the end of life is not the end of love."

In short, this is for all those I know in my life that have passed on.

Update: New pic with new camera.

I have to say, this one of the most finely designed tattoos I've ever seen! I really love that lively colouring style, and the symbolism you used is very original and touching, and I especially love the tail feathers on the phoenix!

Though, I do think there may be some subtle things to work on. I'm mainly looking at the wings and talons-- the talons look rather small in comparison to the phoenix, so I think it may help a bit to make the legs a little longer and add a little more detail to the talons themselves. The wings, too, just look a little... skinny. Granted, I've seen many birds drawn with smaller wings, but for a phoenix, I think maybe making the wings bigger in terms of making the feathers longer may give it more of a phoenix-esque look, or maybe giving more detail to the feathers in general (like around the face). One more thing, too-- the expression. In most drawings and paintings of phoenix's I've seen, when they're reborn, they look like they're shrieking or crying. However, I don't really think that's a big deal; the expression looks good as it is, but that's my opinion. Overrall, I think it's a very nice piece and it has a very sweet meaning to it!
